Masked intruder peers into Melbourne shops in suspected ram-raid

A masked intruder has been caught on camera peering at shops in a Melbourne complex, moments after a four-wheel-drive smashed through its doors.

CCTV footage obtained by 9NEWS shows the blue vehicle driving through the centre on Springfield Road in Blackburn Northabout 4am today.

Moments later, the 4WD turns and drives back in the opposite direction.

A masked intruder holding what appears to be a weapon was also filmed looking into a variety of shops in the complex.

Police found the vehicle abandoned near the front doors of the complex about 4.30am.

Images shared to Facebook show a heavily damaged ATM nearby.

Investigators said no one was at the scene when they arrived.

They are investigating whether any cash was stolen.
