Five dead wombats found at Vic campground

The bodies of five wombats have been found in a burnt out and vandalised picnic area at a Victorian campground.

Environment officers found the dead animals along with dumped rubbish, spray painted trees and signs with bullet holes at the Turtons Creek campground in Gippsland, the Department of Environment, Land Water and Planning said on Monday.

It's believed the picnic area may have been trashed on June 29 or 30 and anyone with information is urged to contact the department.
