Victoria's new governor happy to be edgy

The premier called her "edgy" and Victoria's first woman governor likes that.

Linda Dessau was inaugurated at Government House, becoming the 29th governor of Victoria.

Premier Daniel Andrews said she was "edgy" and the former Family Court judge and AFL commissioner agreed.

"I thought it was fantastic, I don't mind being called edgy," Ms Dessau said on Wednesday.

She said it was an honour being named Victoria's first woman governor.

"I hope that will be less and less a matter for comment as it becomes normal and unremarkable," she said.

Ms Dessau said she wanted to continue the work of previous governor Alex Chernov and open up Government House to Victorians more regularly.

She also said she wanted to address issues of family violence in the community.
