First passengers climb aboard Vic skyrail

Riding high through suburban Melbourne, the first public passengers have travelled on the state's only elevated train line, 'skyrail'.

The new 1.5km rail corridor in Melbourne's southeast opened to commuters on Thursday with Premier Daniel Andrews praising the line which had removed three level crossings at Noble Park.

"This is a significant moment for this community and Victoria - after years of frustration, the level crossings are gone forever and trains are running on this state-of-the-art line," Mr Andrews said.
