Victorian murder accused claims self defence after death of friend over Nazi disagreement

A man accused of killing his friend over an argument about what guns were used by the Nazis has faced the Supreme Court in Victoria's first murder trial of 2021.

Jarrod Frank has admitted to inflicting fatal wounds on another man, but maintains he acted in self-defence.

After he allegedly stabbed the victim to death inside the man's Bendigo home, Jarrod Frank took a taxi to a pub and ate a counter meal.

The 43-year-old stands accused of murdering Scott Bury on King Street in January 2018.

The jury heard today that after meeting at a Cash Converters, the men got into a fight about what kinds of guns Nazis used during World War II.

They went to Mr Bury's home to search for the answer on a computer.

Mr Frank told his associate, "shut up, you're a miserable bitch".

The remarks reportedly provoked Mr Bury to pick up two knives and poke Mr Frank in the chest.

Prosecutors allege Jarrod Frank then lost control and committed murder, before leaving for his pub meal.

Mr Frank's defence team told the jury he accepts he caused the death of Scott Bury, which he regrets, but says it is a classic case of self defence, claiming he was fighting for his life, and he never intended to kill anyone.

The first witness in the case against him will give evidence tomorrow.
