A man lost three fingers while cutting panels at work and his employer has been fined $60,000.

The man was using a panel saw in April last year when he lost three fingers above the first knuckle, Worksafe said.

He had the fingers reattached and spent nine days in hospital.

The Dandenong Magistrates' Court fined the company, Oliver Projects Pty Ltd, on Thursday and also ordered it to pay costs of $4248.

The court heard the company had failed to implement a safe operating procedure for the saw.
