Fire in waste at Vic recycling plant

A large fire has engulfed piles of waste at Melbourne recycling plant.

The fire occurred in a pile of whitegoods, plastic and cardboard stored outside the Thomastown factory just before 11am (AEDT).

Smoke billowed across the road, prompting the Metropolitan Fire Brigade to issue a smoke warning.

It took firefighters one hour to control the blaze.

The cause is unknown.
