Family hope to see missing Vic girl

Siriyakorn "Bung" Siriboon's family believe the missing Melbourne schoolgirl is alive and might come home despite five long years of silence.

Her stepfather Fred Pattison says her disappearance without a trace on June 2, 2011 has taken a toll but they still have hope.

"There's no indication she's gone or passed, so we have to believe she's still alive and able to come home," Mr Pattison told reporters on Thursday at a police press conference marking the fifth year since she left home to walk to school and didn't come back.

Mr Pattison said the silence was the worst thing to bear.

"The lack of information, the lack of anything, is probably worse than knowing something," he said.

But they believe someone out there can tell the family what happened.

"It's very difficult for someone to disappear off the face of the earth, and for no one to see anything or know anything."

Bung's mother, Vanidda, has moved back to Thailand with her eldest daughter, because she was unable to cope with constant reminders in Melbourne of her lost daughter.

The couple remain in contact, though Mr Pattison said the ordeal has strained their relationship.

Bung was last seen walking to her outer-east Melbourne school in her uniform on June 2, 2011 about 8.30am.

"I look at her photo every day," Mr Pattison said.

"We need her back. We miss her a lot."
