Fake Victorian cop's bizarre home arrest

A man pretending to be a police officer has walked into a Melbourne home and handcuffed a man while "arresting" him for attempted murder.

The impersonator, who was holding a badge but wearing plain clothes, approached the Dandenong home on Sunday afternoon and told the residents he was a police officer.

The pseudo cop then handcuffed a 24-year-old man and told him he was under arrest for attempted murder.

He demanded the combination for a safe, but left empty-handed after the victim refused to give him the details.

The victim went to Dandenong police station and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade were called to remove the handcuffs.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information about the impersonator.
