Fake French ticket seller released

A Frenchman who sold fake music tickets to a Melbourne concert has been released on good behaviour so he can travel to Paris for the funeral of a friend killed in the recent terror attacks.

The 24-year-old Marseille man used Facebook to advertise tickets to the Future Music Festival that he had purchased but believed were fake, the Melbourne Magistrates' Court heard.

On March 3 this year he collected $400 from a Melbourne resident who responded to the ad.

When the ticketholders went to the festival on March 8 they were denied entry, so they went to police who tracked down the man via Facebook.

A lawyer for the Frenchman on Wednesday told the court the man wanted to travel to Paris so that he could be at the funeral of a friend killed in Friday's terror attacks.

Magistrate Duncan Reynolds said offloading suspicious tickets to others was becoming increasingly more wide-spread.

But he ordered the man to contribute $400 to the court fund and released him on good behaviour without conviction.

The charge will be dismissed if the man is of good behaviour for 12 months.
