CASE OF FORMER TEACHER AT PRESTIGIOUS MELBOURNE SCHOOL WHO PREYED ON BOYS IN CLASS AND ON CAMPS

WHO:

* Trevor Alan Spurritt

* Aged 76 when sentenced

* He was aged between 26 and 28 at the time of the offending

* Taught maths at Camberwell Grammar School during the offending, and continued to teach at the school until 1999

* Was working as a teacher at a different school when allegations first came to light in 2012 and was suspended

CHARGES:

* Nine counts of indecent assault of a child under the age of 16

* Four victims aged between 12 and 14

* Charges date back to his time as a teacher at Camberwell Grammar School in the early 1970s

* First complaint made in 2012

* Was not charged until 2017

VERDICT:

* A jury found Spurritt guilty of nine counts of indecent assault in September 2019

SENTENCE:

* Jailed for five years and eight months, must serve at least three years before he is eligible for parole
