Essendon rookie Gach Nyuon is expected to be charged with making death threats to an Uber driver.

The 19-year-old ruckman, who is yet to make his AFL debut, was arrested on Sunday morning and released hours later.

Police on Tuesday said a Keysborough teen is expected to be charged on summons with:

* making threats to kill

* criminal damage

* resisting police

* being drunk in a public place.

Essendon is yet to say whether it will impose its own sanctions on Nyuon.

Essendon teammate Orazio Fantasia spoke briefly on the issue on Tuesday, expressing surprise that the rookie had been caught up with police.

"We didn't see anything like that happening with Gach," Fantasia told reporters.

"He's a ripper bloke so they (the club) will work through that."

Hours before his arrest on Sunday morning, Nyuon played in the Essendon seconds team's narrow win over Box Hill.

The Sudanese-born ruckman, recruited from Dandenong Stingrays, was Essendon's top pick in last year's rookie draft.
