Echidna has trouble waking up in the mornings but a friend is there to help

Blondie the echidna is getting into the winter swing of things in Victoria, enjoying a sleep in when she can.

The young mammal lives at Healesville Sanctuary just outside Melbourne.

She has nestled in for the cooler months, but her buddy Lincoln helps her get out and about despite the current lockdown.

The two echidnas live side-by-side and enjoy getting a little grubby in piles of leaves and bark.

Healesville Sanctuary, formally known as the Sir Colin MacKenzie Sanctuary, is a zoo specialising in native Australian animals.

It has a history of breeding native animals and is one of only two places to have successfully bred a platypus, the other being Sydney's Taronga Zoo.
