Drug bust nets seven people in Victoria

Seven people allegedly involved in a drug ring have been charged after cannabis and other drugs worth $640,000 were found after raids across Melbourne.

The raids came after police found drugs hidden in a car stopped at a service station at Glenburn on Wednesday night, Victoria Police said.

More than $275,000 worth of drugs were found in the Kia Sportage and two men aged 26 and 22 were charged with drug trafficking and other offences.

Police later raided properties at Croydon, Croydon Hills, Kilsyth and Mt Evelyn and seized more than 250 cannabis plants, cash, a gun, knuckle dusters and other drugs.

As a result of the raids, party drugs and cannabis worth more than $640,000 were now off the streets, Detective Senior Sergeant Jim Sutherland said on Thursday.

"A complex and well organised drug trafficking syndicate has been dismantled, a significant quantity of illicit drugs has been kept off the streets and several principal offenders have been charged," he said.

Another four men and one woman were arrested and charged over the haul.
