Murdered Vic boys' mum wants compensation

The mother of three boys murdered by their father who drove them into a Victorian dam 10 years ago is seeking compensation.

Jai, 10, Tyler, 7, and Bailey Farquharson, 2, died on Father's Day in September 2005 when their father drove his car off the Princes Highway into the dam near Winchelsea in Victoria's southwest.

Robert Farquharson is in jail for life after he was found guilty for a second time in 2010 of killing the boys.

Barrister Adam Hill, acting for their mother Cindy Gambino, told the Victorian Supreme Court on Tuesday Ms Gambino was seeking compensation.

Farquharson, who appeared in court via videolink, was ordered to pay Ms Gambino $225,000 in compensation in 2009 after being found guilty of the boys' murder in 2007.

He appealed against his conviction, which was quashed in December 2009 and a new trial ordered.

He was found guilty again and sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 33 years in 2010.

In 2013 Farquharson went before the full bench of the High Court seeking leave to appeal his conviction again, but was denied.

Lawyer Trieu Huynh, acting for Farquharson, told the Supreme Court on Tuesday the 45-year-old would be referred to Justice Connect for advice on his ex-wife's claim.

Justice Lex Lasry asked for documentation relating to Ms Gambino's application to be filed by the end of next month, before a half-day hearing in August.
