Driver leaves passengers for dead after crashing

Police said the driver and the passengers, both male, were travelling along Tresco West Road, Victoria, when the car swerved to avoid a fallen tree.

The vehicle careered off the road, and hit another tree about 7am.

The backseat passenger died at the scene, while the driver fled.

The other passenger was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are now en route to the scene, which is about 23 kilometres form Swan Hill.
