Giant slow moving dust devil whips through rural Victorian

A massive dust devil spiralling high into the sky has been filmed passing through a rural Victorian farm.

The March 8 footage shot by a driver on their way to Geelong shows the slow moving rotation form a giant plume of dust.

Unlike traditional tornados, which form from the mesocyclone on the back of a supercell storm, dust devils or willy willys occur during clear weather as a result of spiralling updrafts.

Like a tornado, the weather phenomenon occurs as rising hot air passes through a pocket of cool air.

Dust devils are mainly harmless to people and property.
