Drink driving restriction lifted for ex MP

Former federal MP David Feeney has had his licence restrictions lifted after being caught drink-driving.

Feeney, once the Labor member for the Melbourne seat of Batman, previously lost his licence for drink-driving and, after getting it back, was forced to have an interlock device fitted to his car.

He successfully applied to Melbourne Magistrates Court to have the interlock device removed on Monday.

An interlock device requires the driver to undergo a breath test and won't let the engine start if alcohol is detected.

Feeney held the lower house seat of Batman between 2013 and 2018, when he resigned after failing to prove he wasn't a dual British citizen.

In 2016, it was revealed he'd failed to declare a $2.3 million home on the parliamentary register of MPs' assets.
