Don't demolish Melb's Windsor hotel: oppn

Melbourne's historic Windsor Hotel should not be gutted as part of its redevelopment, the Victorian opposition says.

The developer of the 1883-built hotel wants to renegotiate the project deadline but the government is instead being urged to withdraw a demolition permit for its internal structure.

"Stand up for architecture in Melbourne - don't play footsies with a developer who has no interest in the heritage of our city," Opposition leader Matthew Guy urged the Andrews government on Monday.
