Dog walker brain damaged in Vic attack

A man attacked while walking his dog in Victoria's west has been left with permanent brain damage.

The 59-year-old Ararat man was walking his dog along Barkly Street on July 1 when he was assaulted.

A woman raised the alarm after finding the man with serious head injuries and he was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The man remained in intensive care for 28 days and was left with an acquired brain injury.

Police believe a man and woman fled following the incident.

Detectives will make a plea on Wednesday, along with the victim's daughter, for information to find his attacker.
