Di Natale saved from voter ID bungle

Greens Leader Richard Di Natale has been caught short without ID while casting an absentee vote in the Melbourne battleground seat of Batman.

After queuing to pick up his ballot paper he patted his jacket pockets and came up empty.

"You need my driver's licence ... it's in the car", he said.

Senator Di Natale voted in Reservoir North while supporting candidate Alex Bhathal at St Joseph the Working Primary School when he made the polling-day blunder in front of a media pack.

A staffer rescued him by dashing to the car and grabbing his bag and ID.
