Seven-figure reward remains open as hundreds scour bush for Dezi Freeman

More than 100 police are combing dense bushland in the Mount Buffalo National Park in northern Victoria on the second day of a renewed search for fugitive Dezi Freeman.

The five-day search kicked off yesterday, with revelations police had determined the search area through intelligence received about a gunshot heard in the region in the hours after two police were shot dead in nearby Porepunkah last August.

Neal Thompson and Vadim De Waart-Hottart were killed by gunfire as a team of police executed a search warrant on Freeman's property on the morning of August 26.

A third officer was seriously wounded and continues to recover.

Freeman, a self-declared sovereign citizen who is believed to have been the shooter, fled the property and has not been seen since.

Yesterday, Detective Inspector Adam Tilley said police "strongly" believed Freeman was dead, but they were not ruling out any scenario.

"We are dedicated, we are motivated," he said.

"We will not stop."

A $1 million bounty remains posted for information leading to Freeman's arrest, a historic first in Victoria.

It's not known if the reward would be offered wholly, or in part, for the discovery of Freeman or his remains.
