Victoria's new youth jail is one step closer, with architecture and design firm HDR appointed principal consultants for the project.
HDR will draw up the master plan for the $288 million Cherry Creek facility, which will include 224 beds, an intensive supervision unit and a mental health unit.
The company has designed state-of-the-art correctional facilities around the world, and the youth justice centre is expected to open in 2021.
