Dead koala found in logged Victorian forest

A koala has been found dead among logged trees in a Victorian forest, sparking outrage from environmental campaigners.

Photographs supplied by Friends of the Earth forest campaigners show the koala’s body between felled logs in the Acheron Valley in Warburton.

The animal was found by volunteer surveyors, 9NEWS understands. 

The same group of surveyors submitted a report to the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning on June 8 detailing a threat to  native greater gliders.

Despite the warning, the government allowed VicForests to proceed with the logging, The Age reports.

Environmental campaigner Ed Hill told The Age logging in the area  was continuing to threaten the gliders’ habitat.

VicForests Acting Chief Executive Nathan Trushell told the newspaper yesterday that a “full review” into logging in the Acheron Valley would be conducted.

“If this is one of our operations, we deeply regret that this has occurred,” Mr Trushell said.
