CUB workers bring IR fight to Canberra

Picketing Carlton and United Breweries workers will bring their industrial dispute to Canberra as they take part in a senate inquiry.

It's been five months since 55 maintenance workers lost their jobs at CUB's Abbotsford brewery after the beer giant changed contractor.

They've refused to sign on with a new labour-hire firm offering reduced pay and conditions and have been picketing since.

Representatives for the sacked workers will submit a video to the senate inquiry into the Corporate Avoidance of Fair Work Laws on Tuesday.

The Electrical Trades Union national secretary Allen Hicks hopes the government will act.

"(We) are hopeful that this senate inquiry will finally lead to genuine action to close the loopholes and fix the systemic flaws in our workplace system that are increasingly being used by corporations to remove workplace rights, fair wages, and reasonable conditions," he said.

The union says the new deal offered to the 55 workers would have left them with a 65 per cent pay cut.
