Cat stuck in tree rescued following crowdfunding campaign

After 36 hours up a tree and a crowdfunding campaign, Boots the ginger cat has four paws safely back on the ground.

Melbourne woman Susie Butler started a GoFundMe page to get her neighbour's cat, Boots, out of a tree he became stuck in on Wednesday.

The crowdfunding page raised the $205 needed to call in animal rescuer Nigel Williamson, who got Boots out of the tree on Thursday morning.

"He's perfectly ok health-wise but, being an indoor cat, he was a little bit scared," Mr Williamson told 9NEWS.

"The longest I've had a cat up a tree is 21 days - cats are very hardy animals."

Mr Williamson put on a harness and spurs to climb the tree, picking up Boots and putting him in a bag for his journey back to solid ground. 

Ms Butler says the RSPCA, local council and fire brigade all refused to help which is why she turned to the internet to raise funds for a professional rescue.

"We have tried everything to get him down but the tree can't be climbed," Ms Butler had written on the crowdfunding page.

"I would so love to pay to get him down myself but we are a little down on our luck at the moment, as is my neighbour."
