Court battle over mass union walkouts

More than 100 workers walked off the job across eight construction sites in Victoria in a coordinated union industrial campaign, Fair Work Building and Construction claims.

The FWBC says the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union and 10 of its officials targeted Kane Construction sites in Melbourne and Geelong in April and May, 2014, and refused to show right-of-entry permits and organised unauthorised stop-work meetings.

It is alleged the campaign was prompted when police were called to arrest an official at a Ringwood construction site.

A claim has been lodged by FWBC in the Federal Court and a directions hearing has been scheduled for April 29.
