Man flees store after using counterfeit $100 note to book massage

A distinctly counterfeit $100 note was used to book a massage in Springvale Victoria, before the perpetrator bolted from the store.

The parlour’s owner told 9NEWS she feels “silly” after the man handed her the folded up note to pay for a $40 massage.

When he was handed the $60 change he quickly left the store and did not return as he had said he would.

“I feel silly… I feel [I’ve] totally been fooled,” the shop’s owner said upon realising the note was counterfeit and contained colourful markings in Chinese.

Similar notes have been used in Darwin in May, South Australia in August and Hobart last week.

The man is Caucasian with a medium build and aged between 25-27 years old.

He was wearing long cream-coloured pants and a black and white striped t-shirt at the time.

The maximum sentence for using counterfeit money is 12 years prison or a $60,000 fine.
