Contempt accusation at Vic minister

A senior Victorian government minister is facing a contempt of parliament investigation after a rowdy question time in state parliament.

The opposition accused Police Minister Wade Noonan of substituting paperwork when asked to release to the House a document he had quoted from.

"This matter concerns the police minister's conduct in the house," Opposition leader Matthew Guy told Speaker Telmo Languiller.

Mr Languiller agreed to review a tape recording of question time to see what document was handed over and whether parliament was misled.

"This man has perpetuated a cover-up of the parliament right in front of us and I want to review the footage with you and with him."

Mr Noonan had read from a newspaper clipping.

He later said he was happy to hand over his "source document" on top of a document already provided.

Several opposition MPs were also ejected during the rowdy session, during which government MPs made repeated references to revelations that up to $2 million had been embezzled from Liberal Party accounts.
