Contamination scare in Melbourne

A massive "organic compound" in a Melbourne suburb has given off smoke and vapours after becoming contaminated.

Firefighters attended the scene in Brooklyn on Friday morning, spraying water over the 700kg to 900kg product to cool it and reduce the vapours.

The situation is now safe, with a community warning issued to nearby residents.
