Charges laid over Melbourne crane collapse

Two charges have been laid against the operators of a crane that collapsed in Melbourne two years ago, injuring one person and forcing the part closure of a tollway.

A major onramp that feeds city traffic into the Burnley Tunnel was closed for a week after the crane collapsed on itself following a hydraulic ramp failure on August 7, 2015.

WorkSafe on Friday said it had charged GC Crane Hire, trading as General Cranes, with failing to maintain safe systems of work and failing to ensure the public were not exposed to health and safety risks.
