A man has been charged over a series of armed robberies following a dramatic arrest at a Melbourne motel.

The 28-year-old was arrested after he was surrounded by special operations officers in an upper-level room of the Westside Hotel in Laverton on Thursday.

The special operations group then helped in the arrest of a 30-year-old man in Melton later that afternoon.

Both were arrested over four armed robberies in Brookfield, Brooklyn, Williams Landing and Tarneit on July 10 and 11.

The 28-year-old was charged with offences including armed robbery, vehicle theft and possessing ammunition.

He appeared in an out of sessions hearing where he was remanded in custody to reappear in court on Friday.

The 30-year-old was released without charge pending further investigation.
