Vic homes no longer under threat

Firefighters have contained a bushfire in Central Victoria and downgraded the emergency warning to advice as homes are no longer threatened.

All roads are now open but motorists are urged to drive slowly and be aware of road conditions.

And the relief centre at Wesley Hall, Bury Street, Euroa has been closed.

An emergency warning had been issued for the blaze, which was travelling in a southwest direction from Creightons Creek towards Ruffy, about 175km north of Melbourne.

More than 30 trucks and several aircraft were brought in to help fight the fast-moving, out-of-control grass fire that threatened properties.

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) earlier told residents to leave immediately or stay inside until the blaze had passed.

The fire is no longer a threat but it may take several days for council crews to clear trees on roads in the area, authorities warn.
