Car torched outside Melbourne home

A mother and a baby fled their Melbourne home when a car was torched in their driveway.

Police and firefighters were called to the Reservoir home at 9pm on Tuesday to find the car alight.

Firefighters stopped the flames from reaching the house.

A police spokeswoman said the mother and child fled the home when the suspicious fire was spotted.

She said a crime scene guard was posted overnight and an arson chemist would investigate the car fire on Wednesday.
