Early morning raids nab 14 alleged hoons as Victorian police crackdown on dangerous driving

Police have raided 20 homes across Melbourne, seizing cars and arresting 14 people as part of an operation aimed at stamping out hooning.

It was an early morning wakeup call for some of Melbourne’s most dangerous drivers, as police acted on 20 warrants.

The warrants were executed early this morning after officers gathered evidence on hoons by monitoring social media accounts.

Assistant Commissioner Robert Hill said hoon meetings were largely co-ordinated via social media and, despite recent hooning-related deaths, the behaviour remains prevalent on Victoria’s roads.

“We’ve recently seen the tragic consequences of hoon driving where two lives were lost but unfortunately the reckless driving behaviour continues to plague our suburbs,” he said.

“These hoons are arrogant, overconfident and cannot foresee the lasting consequences of their actions.”
