'Suspicious' car fire on Melbourne road

A car fire on a busy Melbourne street is being treated as suspicious.

The car burst into flames on St Kilda Road just before 3pm on Tuesday, with a second nearby car also catching fire.

The Metropolitan Fire Brigade found one car "fully engulfed" in flames outside a cafe before firefighters extinguished both vehicles.

"The fire has been deemed suspicious and the scene has been handed over to the police," MFB spokesman Phil Buckley told AAP on Tuesday.
