Bushfire threat in Victoria's Black Range State Park downgraded

A bushfire that was threatening private property in Victoria's north has been downgraded overnight.

An emergency warning was in place on Monday evening for properties north of the Black Range State Park and the Mount Talbot area with 12 aircraft battling the blaze at one stage.

The warning was downgraded to a watch and act message for Toolondo and Nurrabiel as the fire slowed.

Residents who left the area were advised to stay away overnight as fire behaviour could change in the morning, emergency services say.

Those who chose to stay were told the threat had eased, but they should monitor the surrounding conditions.

The state's north is forecast to be sunny on Tuesday with south to southeasterly winds. Rain is not forecast until later in the week.

The CFA warns that despite no total fire ban warnings for Victoria on Tuesday, fire danger period restrictions are still in force.

During this period people cannot light a fire in the open air unless they have a permit or comply with certain requirements.
