Bus driver charged over crash at Melbourne's Montague Street bridge that left 11 injured

A bus driver has been charged with dangerous driving offences over a crash involving Melbourne's infamous Montague Street bridge in February.

The 53-year-old Ballarat man has been charged with six counts of negligently causing serious injury, six counts of dangerous driving causing serious injury and other traffic-related offences.

Eleven of the 15 people on board were taken to hospital after the Gold Bus Ballarat vehicle slammed into the South Melbourne bridge on February 22.

Some passengers were trapped for more than an hour and had to cut free after the crash.

The driver will front Melbourne Magistrates' Court on October 19.
