A Victorian teen who was burned when an illegal firework hit her last New Year's Eve is still being treated for scars a year later.

She has warned others against setting off illegal fireworks this year, especially with temperatures set to hit 37C.

Natalie was with a group of friends at Lorne when a boy she knew fired a firework at them.

"It's probably one of the worst pains I think I've had in my life," the 16-year-old said on Monday.

"I used to see a doctor regularly to see the burns. I'm seeing a plastic surgeon for the scars."

Natalie is no longer friends with the boy.

Victoria Police recently charged four young people for selling illegal fireworks over Facebook.

Police raided a home and allegedly found a pallet of fireworks they were selling.

Firefighters also warned about setting them off in parks and grassy areas, on a day likely to have a total fire ban in Victoria.
