Brother of Bourke Street Mall accused breaks silence

The brother of the man accused of the Bourke Street car massacre has expressed his remorse to all those affected by the tragedy.

Angelo Gargasoulas took to Facebook to share his sorrow after his brother, Jimmy Gargasoulas, was charged with killing five people after driving his car along Bourke Street in Melbourne on Friday January 20.

"To all the families of the victims involved in last Fridays tragedy, my heart goes out to you and for all those still fighting in hospital, my thoughts are with you and your recovery," Mr Gargasoulas wrote.

"No one could've predicted... that morning. I'm fortunate enough to still have my life and the support I have received is unheard of!!! I thank everyone involved in making this an easier time for everyone else involved, and my family.

"As for me, I still got some recovery time to do, and it's all looking good... Still in disbelief, the realism of it all has yet to fully sink in, stay strong Melbourne!"

Mr Gargasoulas was allegedly stabbed by his brother in the hours before the mall incident.

Jimmy Gargasoulas, 26 has been charged with five counts of murder in relation to the massacre.

Matthew Si, 33, Jess Mudie, 22, Zachary Bryant, 3 months, Thalia Hakin, 10 and an unnamed Japanese national were killed.

More than 30 people were sent to hospital with various injuries.
