Vic detectives hunt man who assaulted teen

A predator accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy in a Melbourne car park is being urged to hand himself in.

Police have released CCTV images of the man they want to question over the June 1 attack at a Narre Warren shopping centre and believe a member of the public will identify him.

A man approached the 15-year-old boy in the shopping centre, then led him to a basement car park and assaulted him in the back seat of a white car, possibly a Toyota.

"Police believe that people out there will know this man and we encourage people to phone Crimestoppers," Detective Senior Constable Luke Swift of the sexual crimes squad told reporters on Monday.

"Police are also asking this man to contact police, basically hand himself in.

"If he's got an account that he wants to give us, we're here, ready to listen."

The victim is substantially traumatised by the attack, Det Swift said.

The man is described as about 30 years old with dark hair and an accent.

He wore a black beanie, a grey jumper with a red logo on the front, blue jeans and black runners at the time.
