Boral sues CFMEU over $20m black ban

Concrete giant Boral is suing the CFMEU for more than $20 million in damages following a two-year black ban placed on them in 2013-2014.

The company wants damages for losses on 16 specific projects, loss in market share from 2013 and into the future, and reduced profits because they needed to discount to entice customers to continue to use them.

But lawyers for the CFMEU argue that any financial losses since the ban are due to a difficult market and have nothing to do with union action.

The hearing will return to the Victorian Supreme Court on Tuesday.
