Melbourne street in lockdown as bomb squad called in to examine car

The police bomb squad is examining a car on a street in Melbourne's south-west.

Hook Street in Altona Meadows is in lockdown and closed to traffic as a robot surveys the silver hatchback, which is parked under an external carport attached to a home.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed officers were called at 10am and the Bomb Response Unit was on the scene.
