Black Saturday town finally gets a pub

It's been almost eight years since the Black Saturday fires destroyed Marysville and residents have worked up quite a thirst.

So it's about time the Victorian town got a pub.

The beers taps started flowing at The Duck Inn on Wednesday, a long eight years after the Keppel's Hotel burned to the ground in the 2009 fires.

The new pub's owners, Ashraf and Christine Doos, escaped the fires with nothing but the clothes on their back before returning to re-establish their patisserie in 2011.

But with Marysville still without a pub at the start of this year, the Doos got to work.

A hardwood table, held together by metal brackets found in the Marysville rubble, was put in place last week and the doors were opened on Wednesday.

"We've been waiting for this for the past eight years," Mr Doos told 3AW.
