June 2014 - Bendigo council approves construction of a $3 million mosque amid protests and 350 objections to the project.

February 2015 - Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal holds hearings after a group of residents appeal the council's decision.

August 2015 - VCAT grants a planning permit to Australian Islamic Mission and upholds the council's original decision.

September 2015 - Opponents seek leave to appeal VCAT's decision.

Two residents also apply for an order to ensure no work is done until the appeal application is heard, but the Victorian Court of Appeal dismisses that application.

November 2015 - Opponents appeal VCAT ruling in the Appeal Court arguing the tribunal misinterpreted its legislated duties and failed to consider the social and economic effects of the mosque.

December 2015 - Court of Appeal throws out the challenge to the VCAT ruling. Opponents flag their intention to take the matter to the High Court.

June 2016 - High Court dismisses a request from mosque opponents to hear an appeal of VCAT's ruling.
