Beetroot 'bomb scare' at Melbourne Airport

There are a few red faces at Melbourne Airport after a leaking beetroot tin was mistaken for a bomb.

The shipment of beetroot arrived at Melbourne Airport on Friday morning with suspicious looking electrodes attached and reddish purple fluid leaking out.

The airport called in a Hazmat team to investigate but it turns out the electrodes are used to monitor the temperature of the beetroot - not part of a bomb.

The delivery was scanned and no threat was identified, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade said.
