Man charged after $60,000 raised for Hannah McGuire's family allegedly stolen

A man has been charged for allegedly stealing more than $60,000 in fundraising money meant for the family of Hannah McGuire, who was allegedly murdered by her ex-partner in Victoria.

The body of the 23-year-old Clunes woman was found in a burnt-out car at Scarsdale in April, about 25 kilometres south of Ballarat.

An online fundraiser was quickly established on behalf of the Clunes Cricket Club, where McGuire's family is involved, which raised almost $65,000 following her death.

Police today confirmed 26-year-old Lachlan Morganti has been charged for allegedly stealing $60,000 of the funds raised.

Police alleged the Winter Valley man stole the money between April 25 and May 8.

A GoFundMe spokesperson told 9news.com.au that they were aware of the incident.

"The GoFundMe Trust and Safety team is aware of this alleged misuse of funds, and will work with authorities and all parties to reach a resolution," the spokesperson said.

Morganti has been bailed to appear before the Ballarat Magistrates' Court on June 20.

Lachlan Young, 21, has been charged with murder over McGuire's death.
