Police believe shots fired into a Melbourne home while a one-week baby was inside was a targeted attack.

Investigations are underway after several shots were fired into the Warrain Street home at Frankston shortly before 5am on Thursday, and a car was set alight.

It is believed the baby and three adults were in the house at the time, but no one was injured.

At this stage, investigators believe this incident was targeted.

About 10 minutes after the shooting, another car was set on fire five kilometres away.

The fire is being treated as suspicious and police are investigating whether the two incidents are linked.

Police are expected to be in the area for the next couple of days, conducting doorknocks to speak with local residents and answer any concerns.
