Baby found dead on Vic beach

Victoria police are investigating after a baby was found dead in Melbourne.

The infant, believed to be a newborn, was located on a beach in Seaford by a passer-by on Wednesday afternoon, police said in a statement.

There are serious concerns for the baby's mother and police are asking for her to make contact as soon as as possible.

The circumstances around the death are yet to be determined and police are urging anyone with information to contact crime stoppers 1800 333 000.
