CHARGES

Murder

Asling shot Graham Kinniburgh, 62, outside his Kew home on December 13, 2003.

ARREST

Asling was arrested and charged with Kinniburgh's murder in November 2015. Police say Carl Williams told them in 2008 that Asling and Terrence Blewitt had shot Kinniburgh. Williams also said he had more information to provide but never got the opportunity because he was killed in jail in 2010.

TRIAL

The prosecution said drug kingpin Carl Williams had arranged the contract killing of Kinniburgh for $150,000 and hired Asling and the now-dead Blewitt to do the job.

The defence said a key witness falsely implicated Williams to avoid prosecution for another murder. DNA evidence taken from the crime scene, including cigarette butts and chewing gum, do not belong to Asling.
